Chemical Imaging

The innovative Chemical Imaging (CI) technique, available on the IR Microscope, allows simultaneous acquisition of chemical (IR spectra) and spatial (sample image) information for the study of multilayers and surface inhomogeneities, as well as for the identification of pollutants on the surface of any organic solid material.

Tests are necessary to fine-tune innovative solutions for products and components across various application sectors.

01 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy with Imaging (FTIR Imaging)

This technique allows high-resolution chemical images to be obtained based on the absorption of infrared radiation by materials. FTIR imaging makes it possible to identify the distribution of chemical components within a sample and is particularly useful in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, and industrial fields.

ISO 4650ASTM E1421

02 Raman Imaging Spectroscopy

This technique provides chemical maps based on the Raman scattering of laser light, identifying molecular composition and structural variations in materials. It is used in the pharmaceutical industry, cultural heritage, semiconductors, and advanced materials to analyze microplastics, pigments, minerals, and contaminants.

ISO 13124ASTM E1683

03 Imaging with Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS Imaging)

This methodology uses a beam of primary ions to analyze the surface of a material, obtaining images of the elemental and molecular distribution with submicrometric resolution. It is applied in the electronic, biomedical, and environmental sectors for the study of contaminants, biomolecules, and thin coatings.

ISO 23812ASTM E2857

04 Imaging with spectroscopy X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS imaging)

XPS Imaging allows the chemical composition of a material's surface to be analyzed down to a few nanometers deep, providing information on the oxidation states and chemistry of the elements present. It is used in the aerospace, automotive, and electronics industries for the inspection of coatings and surface treatments.

ISO 18118ASTM D7753

05 Imaging with UV-Vis-NIR microspectroscopy

This technique enables the analysis of light absorption in a spectral range extending from ultraviolet to near infrared and provides chemical maps of transparent or semiconducting materials. It is used in the display industry, nanotechnology and the investigation of biomaterials.
