The fluorescent penetrant method is a non-destructive test used to detect surface discontinuities on metallic and non-metallic materials, such as cracks, porosity, or crazing. The test is based on the application of a low surface tension fluorescent liquid that penetrates the discontinuities and is then illuminated with black light (Wood's lamp) to make the defects visible.
This non-destructive analysis is effective on smooth, non-porous surfaces and is widely used in the aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, and energy sectors to check welds, castings, and critical components, ensuring the structural integrity of components.
